Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua alias Jaguar urged the government to protect local traders moments before he was arrested outside Parliament.
In an interview with K24, the lawmaker said it is unfortunate that foreigners continue conducting trade in different parts of the country, despite Interior CS Fred Matiang'I assuring them that everything was under control.
He noted that he has concrete information on the matter, adding that he was ready to present himself to the police to record a statement.
"We summoned CS Matiang'i (Fred) about the same issue and he told us that they were working to ensure that those Chinese are removed from where they operate, but if you go to the ground, it is completely different,” he said in part.
Moments after Jaguar's arrest, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and his Lang'ata counterpart Nixon Korir stormed the Nairobi Area police station, hoping to see the legislator, but police chased them away.
"This thing of stopping us from seeing our colleague is unfortunate. Even touts are allowed to see their colleagues, so why can't we be allowed to see him?" Kuria posed.
He also questioned why the police didn’t arrest Interior CS Fred Matiang'i after he ordered for the deportation of six foreign nationals.
