The forthcoming 2022 general polls will automatically throw some of the nation's current leaders into political cold, others never to return.
One of these is Siaya Governor Cornell Rasanga who is currently on his second and last term constitutionally, and will be exiting the stage in 2022.
But, what options does he have to retain himself in mainstream politics? The first one would be to vie for the presidential slot.
And though he risks failing terribly since he lacks the national influence to realize that, this could also land him in problems with opposition supporters allied to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Should Raila, who happens to be a native of the same county and on whose Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket Rasanga was elected into office vie, then he will be branded a traitor.
Another option is to join the team probable to form the next government ahead of the polls, and secure himself a ministerial or top government slot.
This way, the Governor will have again acquired a political lifeline and remained relevant even after his retirement.
Also, he could embark on a journey to bring himself out as a political kingpin or a pointman in the area.
This way, he will retain his position as a top political figure in the region even after the looming retirement.
