Elachi was impeached Thursday evening after majority MCAs voted against her leadership through a motion of no confidence.

A total of 103 MCAs gave the motion the required two-thirds threshold requirement for such decisions. 

Elachi was dealt a blow before the impeachment after the members amended House procedures for the removal of a speaker stating that the first-time speaker will now not be required to present herself before an Ad-hoc committee in defense of herself as the law required then.
