Kenyans have woken up to the sad news of the Sarova Hotels chairman, MS Vohra, his wife, daughter and daughter-in-law's death after they were involved in a road crash on Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Makueni county.

Confirming the incident, Mukaa police boss Charles Muthui said two of the occupants of the car, which was being driven by Vohra, died on the spot while the other two were pronounced dead at a hospital where they had been rushed for treatment after the incident.

The late Vohra was first taken to Sultan Hamud County Hospital before he was flown to Nairobi for specialized treatment but he never survived.

The accident occurred after the Toyota Landcruiser they were traveling in lost control and veered off the road before landing into a ditch. 

They were traveling back to Nairobi after attending a religious ceremony at the Makindu Sikh Temple.

“Two people died on the spot and the other two were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” Muthui said.

The bodies of the kin were taken to Machakos County Referral Hospital mortuary.

The vehicle's wreckage was towed to Salama Police Station.
