Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has been handed a reprieve after a Nairobi court ordered the Firearm Licensing Board to renew his certificate.
The lawmaker had earlier on decried about his security after the board threatened not to renew his certificate.
According to the lawmaker, the move was aimed at frustrating him after he declared his support for Deputy President William Ruto before 2022.
Didmus, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, insists that the board is being used by some powerful individuals to tame Ruto’s allies.
In his ruling on Friday Justice John Mativo ruled in Didmus‘ favor following the confiscation of his weapon.
“The respondent does renew the firearms certificates number 004886 dated April 26, 2018, issued to Barasa for a further one year,” ruled Mativo.
The court has also ordered the government not to recall police officers attached to the lawmaker.
Barasa, through his lawyer Danson Omari had told the court that he was being targeted because of his fiery nature in the political arena.
The legislator decided to seek court’s attention to settle the matter before things fall apart for him.
He faulted the government for being one-sided in making crucial decisions. The lawmaker has vowed not to change his tune as far as supporting Ruto is concerned.
