Deputy President William Ruto has attracted criticism over his strong defence against the saga surrounding the Arror, Kimwarer and Itare dams construction.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) had confirmed investigating a loss of 21 billion but DP Ruto refuted the statement claimed it's 7 billion that has been lost.
ODM Communication director Philip Etale, through a statement on Facebook which is signed by ODM MPs wants DP Ruto to declare his interest in the saga. The MPs want to know why DP Ruto has become the spokesperson for those implicated in the saga.
"For reasons that are difficult to fathom but that are anyone's guess, the Deputy President has taken over the role of spokesman for Arror, Kimwarer and Etare dams and the various ministries involved," reads part of a Facebook statement by ODM Communication director Philip Etale.
The ODM MPs bashed the deputy President for providing his own version of the saga, claiming the amount lost is 'a mere Ksh7 billion' which contradicts the DCI earlier statements.
The MPs claim it's shocking how DP Ruto has personalized the matter, blaming the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for its revelation.
The MPs want Ruto to tell Kenyans his interest in the saga adding he should separate his 2022 presidential ambitions from the desire by the people of Kenya for a corruption-free government.
"We are challenging the Deputy President to help Kenyans understand what his interest is in this corruption case that is making him take up the role of spokesman for ministries and contradicting the government," reads the statement.
They also challenge the Deputy President to explain to Kenyans whether he has faith in the capacity of the DCI to conduct investigations for the government and why he is interfering with the work of that agency which currently enjoys the confidence of the majority of Kenyans.
The MPs held a stand that the time for fighting corruption is now and DP Ruto should choose between being with Kenyans in the fight or against Kenyans in which case she will be alone.
