The upgrade is expected to be complete before the 2022 general elections.

The office of the DP hired a contractor in November 2018 to refurbish the home before its ownership was transferred from Coast provincial commissioner.  The second in command will have to wait until the house is refurbished to fit his status before he can move in.

The National Treasury plans to allocate Sh37.4 million in July.  In the financial year ending June, the treasury is expected to add Sh39 million on the renovation of the building.

The house was last occupied by a former Coast PC and regional coordinator Samuel Kilele before it was transferred.

Ruto, who is considered one of the front runners in the contest for the nation’s top seat, is expected to be putting up at the house whenever he travels to the Coast region.

The house is located next to the State House. The government will also allocate additional billions to construct an office for the DP, which will be his second office besides that located on Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.

Ruto’s Harambee office will be renovated at Sh35 million and his Karen home at Sh15.6 million.
