DP Ruto has made it clear that he will be a contestant in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the forthcoming 2022 general polls.

But the duo of Bomet Central lawmaker Ronald Tonui and Nelson Koech (Belgut) now claim that the powerful individuals have deployed a number of hurdles to counter him.

They alleged that the plan entails heaping national financial scandals on the DP to give him a bad image.

The people, said Tonui, are the force behind the unending allegations from the rebellious trio of Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben) and Joshua Kuttuny (Cherangany).

“The bashing the DP has received lately over alleged corruption links, including those from rebel MPs Joshua Kutuny, Alfred Keter, and Silas Tiren, have the blessings of powerful individuals in the corridors of power,” Tonui told the Nation.

The Jubilee MP also accused Ruto's opposers of peddling lies about the DP, the most recent being his alleged enmity with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

"Our colleagues have attempted to link the DP to scandals in the maize, sugar and fertiliser sectors in a bid to drive a wedge between him and his Rift Valley political base. Now we are being told there are turf wars between him and Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i, who is his junior. This is sheer madness” added Koech.

Ruto who is expected to vie for the top seat on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket has however called upon his allies and Kenyans to shun the 2022 debate and concentrate on development.
