Nyahururu-based athlete Jane Njoki Theuri is a desperate person.
Having participated in the world under 18 championships in Colombia in 2015, East Africa under 20 championships in 2016 and world under 20 championships in Poland in 2016, Njoki said is yet to receive her payment.
Addressing media in Nakuru on Wednesday September 5, the athlete said she has been making frantic efforts to visit Athletics Kenya offices in Nakuru but without success.
The soft-spoken athlete who specializes in 400 metres race said that while in Colombia, the current Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga was the team manager where she earned position 6.
She said she was supposed to be paid Sh128,000. In the East African championships she claims Sh30,000 after bagging position 2.
She also claims another Sh150, 000 after participating in the world under 20 championships in Poland where she was position 5.
Holding a bulk of certificates and medals, Njoki could not hold her tears as she narrated how her family continues to suffer financially and cannot help.
“My father is now ill with prostate cancer and he cannot provide for the family. At least if I can get my dues then I will be able to assist our family,” said Njoki.
He mother Gladys Muthoni Theuri appealed to the concerned ministry to ensure her daughter is paid.
“I am just appealing to our leaders to assist so that my daughter can be paid her dues. That alone will give me peace,” the mother said.
