Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has said that the fight of Members of Parliament to get Sh250,000 house allowance is not an idea of all of them.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen’s JKL on Wednesday, Sakaja said that it is hard for a lawmaker to make a decision when such a matter is presented on the floor of the house.
The senator, however, said that an individual must rethink about the idea at a personal level before deciding whether to back the same or not.
He also said that he and his Makueni Counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Junior, who was also present during the interview, have never been part of such motions since they entered politics
“When this issue has come up many politicians would want to run away from it and the dilemma that normally comes is that do I side with colleagues or do I say something populist to appease the people.
"Whenever a politician encounters such challenges you go to the depths of your conscience and ask yourself what is the right thing to do. Me and Mutula we do not take part in such discussions we don’t even set our own salaries,"he said in part.
The remarks comes after the High Court barred the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) from paying lawmakers Ksh50,000 monthly house allowances.
