Recently crowned best teacher in Africa in this year's inaugural Africa union continental teacher prize held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mr Eric Ademba, has revealed one of his best memorable moments in teaching career.
The Mathematics and Chemistry teacher at Asumbi Girls High School said helping one of the girls to improve in her performance made him proud.
In an exclusive interview with People Daily, he said it was back in 2016 when he was coaching the girl in Mathematics, but her performance was poor.
Mr Ademba added that his passion to teach is inspired by his own students.
“As a teacher, I felt great and the girl’s parents could not believe her tremendous performance. I teach with passion and enjoy when my students pass. They are the ones who inspire me by performing well,” he said as quoted by People Daily.
Mr Ademba's former students describe him as an inventor and a good role model to many. One of the students of his 2017 class, Wendy Sonye, currently at Moi University, said his inventions helped them perform well in national exams.
“He invented a method where we would do a chemistry rush-hour test for five minutes every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch break which boosted our mean grade in 2017 when we were among the top schools nationally in Chemistry,” she said.
Ademba beat 50 other teachers from across the continent to clinch the priize and a certificate of recognition.
