The Luo region is known for its artistic prowess and has proceeded to give the country some of its best tunes, especially during political seasons.
However, here are some of the less known heartbreaking tracks that can evoke emotions and are based on true happenings.
1. Wuora Ogola Adoyo
In the song, Opiyo Kabaselleh narrates how his father, Ogolla Adoyo, who was ailing, died without giving him a last word, and to worsen it, he died when the musician was at the entrance of his homestead.
He wonders why he couldn't wait for a few seconds, so that he could reach the house, and give him his hand for the last time.
"Ratego daknirita mondo amakie lweti kende baba? (Father, why couldn't you wait to shake my hand for the last time?)," he sings.
He proceeds to blame the father for avoiding him, and letting him come all the way, only to die as he was approaching to see him.
Due to the pain, he never attended the burial which happened in Asembo Kokise, Siaya county.
2. Angeline Achieng
Angeline Achieng alias Nyar Kadenge was wife to popular Benga musician Osito Kalee before her death sometime in 2016.
In the song, he terms her death a big blow to him, expressing doubts whether he can get another hardworking woman with a good heart as the deceased.
He heaps the blame on doctors at the Old Nyanza hospital, wondering why they failed to save her life.
"Jo Old Nyanza apenjou ni Nyar Kadenge notamowu thietho nang'o?(Doctors of Old Nyanza, why weren't you able to save Nyar Kadenge's life?)," Kalee sings.
He narrates in the song how sorrow has been accompanying him since 2001, and has watched three of his other wives die, begging God to forgive him, if he has unknowingly done wrong.
3. Okatch Pod Angima
The title translates to 'Okatch I'm still alive', the last song released by the late Okatch Biggy before his death in 1997.
In the song, he narrates receiving news of his death, yet he was still alive, stating that his fans in Siaya expressed shock after seeing him on stage, yet they had been told that he had died.
"Ma Satan koso Biggy Okatch? Ma waneno ang'o (Is this Okatch or a ghost? Who is this?)," he says that the fans said in shock.
In the song, he blames his competitors for peddling lies that he had contracted HIV, which reportedly killed him, arguing that he remains alive and is even saved and no longer chasing after women.
