Two vocal lawyers Tom Ojienda and Peter Wanyama were arrested on Friday afternoon over the Mumias Sugar Company saga.
According to Citizen Digital, lawyers Ojienda and Wanyama were picked by undercover officers and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Nairobi headquarters for further questioning.
Further reports confirmed that another group of detectives are currently searching for Judge Odek Otieno who is also attached to the Court of Appeal.
The Friday arrests caught the attention of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) vice-president Chiggai Harriette Chiggai who has since condemned action terming them malicious and ill-timed. Chiggai also disclosed that a team of lawyers have been dispatched to handle the matter.
The sentiments were also echoed by Lawyer Nelson Havi who said the arrests were a case of ‘justice on trial.’
"It is easy to see through the ploy by the DCI and the DPP in arresting Professor Tom Ojienda on a Friday afternoon: hold him over the weekend; procure warrants to search his homes and offices in his absence; and violate his constitutional rights in the process,” Havi said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The arrested duo are said to be representing the company’s former Managing Director Dr Evans Kidero,.
