According to Maangi, Obado's human rights have been violated after the High court sitting in Nairobi on Tuesday ruled that he should remain in custody until Thursday.

"Obado is only a suspect in the murder of the Rongo University student Sharon Otieno. Real killers have not be nabbed. The court should consider releasing Obado on bail since it is his constitutional right," he said.

The Deputy Governor blamed politics in Obado's woes.

"His arrest is meant to taint his political career. He is being frustrated after he opposed a decision by ODM party to award a direct ticket to Ochillo Ayako to vie for a senate seat in Migori county," said Maangi.

Maangi rubbished claims that Governor Obado should be expelled from the ODM party.

"We should not celebrate Obado's arrest. It is shameful for a section of leaders to ask ODM party leader Raila Odinga to expel him from the party," he added.

He was speaking in his office on Tuesday.
