A former student leader James Omasete Emojong who beat all odds coming from a minority community, the Iteso, to be elected by the Moi University comrades in the academic year 2015/2016 to serve as their Vice Chairman in the students governing council (SGC) is now eyeing a political seat in the coming general elections.

Omasete who is a resident of Angurai, Teso North constituency, in Busia County has declared an interest for the Member of County Assembly in Angurai North Ward.

The former student leader who also served as the Secretary-General of Teso North University Students Association (TENUSA) in the year 2016/2017 has an immense history of leadership qualities and believes he has all it takes to lead his people from the ward level onwards.

The young vibrant politician showcased his masterclass ambitions while championing for better service delivery at the university which realized a great improvement on the services rendered especially on issues of missing marks.

He now seems full of energy to lead the people in a democratic way.

"Every journey has a beginning and it starts now, having gained experience when I was a student leader at Moi University. I believe it's time to put the experience in new levels. I will be vying for the MCA seat in Angurai North Ward, Busia County. God bless us all," Omasete declared on his Twitter account

Commonly known as 'Jimmy', Omasete believes that it is time the young people take up leadership roles as the constitution enshrines youth spaces in leadership.

The former student leaders'  declaration to be an MCA injects fresh debate on the role and capabilities of the young people in leadership.

"I want to be an MCA in Angurai North Ward, Teso North constituency," he insisted

His declaration, therefore, gives the incumbent MCA Lawrence Okaal who currently is the deputy speaker of the Busia County Assembly a lot of headache in defending his seat since the young leader believes commands masses in his ward.
