Hassan Omar Sarai has an incredible Curriculum Vitae.
Born in Mombasa in 1975, Omar attended Islamic Classes (Madrasa) before joining Mombasa primary school in 1982. After sitting for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1989, he joined Lenana School in 1990.
Between 1994 and 1995, after high school, Hassan received some military education as an Air Force cadet at the Kenya Military Academy that was formerly called the Armed Forces Training College (AFTC).
In 1995, he quit the military and joined Moi University to study law.
While at the university, Omar was elected th chairperson of Moi University Students Organization (MUSO). He also chaired the Kenya National Students Union (KENASU). He was the head of Council for University Students of East Africa (CUSEA) and chaired Kenya University Muslim Students Association (KUMSA).
He was also the East African Youth Council Secretary General (EAYCO-Kenya Chapter).
He attended Les Aspin Center for Government in Washington DC, USA and was trained on governance and democracy. He was a board member and founder of the Muslim Consultative Council (MCC) and was the National Coordinator for Muungano wa Mageuzi.
In May 2006, he was nominated by various religious entities including SUPKEM as a commissioner at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR). He was then appointed as a commissioner of the same organization in January 2007.
Lately he served as Mombasa County Senator before vying for the gubernatorial slot, which he lost.
