It is a big win for Kenyan institutions of higher learning after one of its own was elected the President of African Universities Students' Organization (AUSO)'.
This follows the election of Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) Chairperson Joshua Ayika as AUSO President.
According to a statement posted on the university's website, Ayika was elected by university student leaders from across the African continent to represent them during the Inter-biannual Universities Deliberation Conferences.
"Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) Chairman Joshua Ayika has been elected president of the African Universities Students Organisation (AUSO). Mr. Ayika was elected by student leaders across the region as the representative of African universities during the Inter biannual Universities," reads the statement in part
In his new role as the head of African university students organisation, Ayika will push for implementation of education policies within Africa as well as leading innovative systems aimed at reducing illiteracy levels within the entire continent.
Ayiko was elected in a conference held at the Technical University of Munich last Friday. His election now gets into the books of history, as he is the very first Kenyan student leader to occupy the position.
At the moment Ayika also doubles as the chairman of the Kenya Universities Students Organization (KUSO).
