A section of politicians from Central Kenya has vowed to stick with Deputy President William Ruto amid threats by a team dubbed 'Kieleweke'.
The 'Kieleweke' team is a group of politicians allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta which has been warning their colleagues against accompanying the DP in his tours across the country.
Led by Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda, the group has accused team 'Tanga Tanga' which is allied to the DP of defying Uhuru, who has repeatedly warned against early campaigns.
Kamanda recently threatened to start a campaign against them to ensure they do not retain their seats in the 2022 general election.
“Uhuru is the leader of Mt Kenya region and he will continue to be our leader even after 2022. If they do not stop what they are doing, their political careers will end. They know that," the veteran MP said.
However, despite the threats, the leaders have vowed not to abandon Ruto. On Friday, they accompanied him during a tour of Kakamega County.
They were led by Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Kabete Member of Parliament Githua Wamacukuru.
Others were Nyeri Women Representative Rahab Mukami, Oljororok MP Micheal Muchira and his Ol Kalou counterpart Njuguna Kiaraho.
The politicians were hosted by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale at his Malinya home.
During the function, Waititu said Mount Kenya residents will throw their weight behind Ruto in the upcoming 2022 polls.
He cited Ruto's 'development agenda and bid to unite all Kenyans' as some of the reasons why Mt Kenya people will rally behind the DP.
