Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna has defended Siaya Senator James Orengo for wearing a replica of military attire during campaigns for the Ugenya by-election.
The lawyer said there is nothing wrong with the senator wearing such attire.
This comes after social media users asked the office of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to take action against the senator for donning the military-like attire.
“2mths ago former IG instructed police officers to arrest civilians with attires that resemble security uniforms. That seems not to be happening. Could it be that officers failed on the job? Orders of former IG don't matter much? @Odpp @DCI_Kenya @NelsonHavi @MigunaMiguna @orengo_james,” said a social media user.
Miguna, however, came to Orengo's defence saying the senator has a right to wear anything he wants. He rubbished calls for the arrest of the Senate Minority leader, adding that threats to arrest anyone in military gear are baseless.
“There is nothing wrong with @orengo_james's attire. We must desist from encouraging the rogue regime and/or its functionaries from infringing on anyone's right. Orengo has the right to wear what he wants to wear. He purchased his attire with his own money,” he said through his official Twitter handle.
Miguna has been very vocal on matters of national concern including security.
