Naftali Kinuthia, the suspect who hacked to death a Moi University girl, had allegedly spent thousands of shillings on the deceased during her studies at the campus.
The deceased has been identified as Ivy Wangechi – a sixth-year medical student at the varsity’s School of Medicine.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Kinuthia told People Daily that he had been sending the girl cash for upkeep and was hurt when he got reports of the girl’s alleged cheating ways.
The paper reported that Kinuthia learnt of Wangechi’s said infidelity from a former girlfriend.
But the girl had melted his heart that he still spoilt her with Sh14, 000 to finance her birthday party.
However, Kinuthia said that after Wangechi received the M-pesa notification of the cash, she switched off her phone.
“I have been trying to reach her through her mobile number since last week when I sent her the money but in vain,” said Kinuthia.
Writhing in pain and a sense of being betrayed, the suspect travelled from Nairobi where he works to Eldoret where he murdered the girl in a chilling manner.
His action left Eldoret town in a panic as the nation mourned the death of a girl who was a perfect definition of brains and beauty.
The suspect is admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where he was admitted after police rescued him from public lynching.
