Police officers in Kisii County are hunting down a man accused of defiling his 17-year-old niece in Nyabimwa village.
Confirming the incident Kisii county police commander Martin Kibet said the suspect aged 40-years went into hiding when he realized police officers are looking for him.
"The man repeatedly defiled the girl to the extent he has sired two kids with her. The girl's 3-months-old baby died and this is when villagers reported the matter to police for the man to be arrested," he said.
Mr. Kibet said once the man will be nabbed, a DNA test will be done to determine the paternity of the surviving child.
The commander said there was drama on Wednesday when the girl's baby was being buried.
"Villagers wanted the burial of the baby to be postponed until the man is arrested but, elders intervened before the burial proceeded," said Kibet.
He challenged men to stop chasing minors for sex saying anyone who will be caught will face the law.
"It is sad that some men have turned against minors for sex instead of going for mature women. Men need to grow up and respect young girls," he added.
