Oparanya who doubles as the Orange  Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader takes over from his Turkana Counterpart Josphat Nanok.

The election of Oparanya now will give ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi sleepless nights since Oparanya will tend to take control of the western region.

Western is ODM dominated and as such it will be easy for him to catapult his ambitions to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta come 2022.

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has enjoyed for the Luhya dominance as their 'spokesman' but now 'tools' may soon change and exchange hands.

Mudavadi whose party falls second behind ODM in the support from the four western counties will lose terribly if ODM endorses Governor Oparanya's presidential bid.

Kakamega has been transformed immensely under Governor Oparanya's leadership since 2013 when he took office as the first Governor of Kakamega county ranging from the Agriculture, Sports and Health sectors to empowerment of the youth and women.

Based on the regional block support, Oparanya has more support from Nyanza region which is the backyard of ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga compared to Mudavadi whose party has no voice in the region.

Hence, Mudavadi's presidential ambitions have been hit by a snug after the Governor was duly elected as the Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) in which he will use his influence thereafter to seek for the Governors endorsement for the coveted presidential seat.
