Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has explained why he shifted from City Hall to his Mua home in Machakos.
Governor Sonko says that there is nothing wrong with him operating Nairobi county affairs from his Machakos home.
He said that majority of the governors don’t operate from their counties.
The Nairobi governor argues that no law bars him from operating in another county.
Sonko said that he shifted to his Mua home because it is close to his father’s grave.
He added that he operates in Machakos because it is his native home.
“My father was laid to rest in Mua. My father used to be my best friend. I really miss him a lot," emotional Sonko said on Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange Live on Wednesday.
The Nairobi governor said that his father had hopes in him and he goes to Mua because his grave is there.
“I will never leave my father’s grave,” the governor added.
He maintained that when he was elected in 2017, he was living in Mua.
Sonko has in the recent past been under pressure from Nairobi MCAs to relocate back to City Hall.
The MCAs say that it is unconstitutional for the governor to operate in another county.
Last week, the city MCAs issued Governor Sonko with two weeks ultimatum to relocate back to City Hall or face impeachment.
