Mathare Member of Parliament (MP) Anthony Oluoch has defended opposition leader Raila Odinga against claims that he is to blame for some Jubilee government failures.
Oluoch argues that Raila is not in government to be blamed for government failures.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's Day Break on Monday, the MP said that Raila does not in any way co-run the government with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Raila Odinga is not in government, he has not said he plays any role in government and does not co-run this government with the president," he said during the interview.
The vocal ODM lawmaker added, "I think it is a misnomer that anybody wants to ascribe the successes/failures of this government to Raila Odinga."
The MP stated that the handshake does not mean that Raila is in government, adding that the former Prime Minister is only helping the government actualise its development projects.
Oluoch at the same time refuted claims that the handshake 'killed' the opposition.
He said that opposition leaders will continue to keep the Jubilee government in checks in the wake of alleged massive graft allegations.
A section of Jubilee Party politicians has been accusing Raila of allegedly undermining the government.
Led by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa the legislators claim that Raila is allegedly using the handshake for his own interests in the coming 2022 election.
Raila has several times refuted claims that he is out to split the ruling Jubilee Party.
The opposition leader says his agenda is to spearhead the country's unity and help the government fight graft.
