With just 72 hours to President Uhuru Kenyatta's trip to Gusii region, divisions have emerged as leadership from Nyamira remain at large despite the ongoing preparations.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae, in a unique press conference last week, said the president would visit even the neighbouring Nyamira despite Governor John Nyagarama's absence.

"There has been a major facelift of Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and we expect the president to launch it. He will be visiting Kisii and Nyamira for two days," he said.

At Nyamira, everything remains at standstill with local leaders keeping mum over the president's tour, raising eyebrows over possible rebellion between the two counties.

Former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire says Kisii County dominance in Uhuru's trip is informed by the fact that most leaders from Nyamira are clueless about development.

"At Kisii, there is something to be launched. This is write different from Nyamira. Our local leadership seems clueless because none seems bothered. We shall remain in Kisii shadows for some time," he said.

It will be Uhuru's first ever trip to the region since 2017 June. He will be launching an Oncology center in Kisii with sources also saying he could initiate Ekerenyo-Nyamaiya road.

By the time of going to the press, Nyamira leaders were yet to meet as a team and plan for the trip even as sources intimates that Governor John Nyagarama travelled to Nairobi.
