Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday declared that he will henceforth work closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during the funeral service of his father Peter Mairu in Tseikuru, Mwingi constituency in Kitui County, the humble Kalonzo added that he has no problem working as Uhuru’s servant.
“I think I will be Uhuru’s right-hand man from now on and I don’t want anyone to question me about it, if you do, you will realize that I am as stubborn as my departed father,’’ he was quoted by the Capital News.
‘’I am doing this because we want these people to benefit; we want this nation to be one thing. My brother Raila we will continue to work together,” he is further quoted.
Coming from a top opposition figure who has repeatedly declared his presidential ambitions, the former Vice President’s remarks obviously have a hidden agenda.
Kalonzo is apparently warming up to the presidency in an attempt to win his endorsement in his 2022 presidential bid, but is doing it under the veil of friendship.
This comes barely two weeks after Uhuru cautioned that his choice of a successor in the 2022 presidential race will be a shocker, meaning that any person can end up receiving his backing for the race.
The president was initially anticipated to be readying himself to endorse his Deputy William Ruto, a thought he expelled when he declared that he will shock the nation.
Further, Kalonzo seems to have resorted to seeking another route to power after twin failures in opposition leader Raila Odinga’s camp where he was the running-mate in the 2013 and 2017 polls.
And with power only expected to come from one of the two top leaders, Uhuru who has beaten Raila in both polls seems as the best option, both as an endorser and a mentor.
Lastly, Musyoka who is currently on the political cold must have noticed that his survival between now and 2022 depends on Uhuru.
Judging by the case of Raila whose newfound friendship has earned him (Raila) an African Union Infrastructure Envoy slot, Kalonzo seems to be after a similar consideration.
