Siaya Senator James Orengo has an uphill task to clinch the 2022 Siaya Gubernatorial seat as he will face off with 2017 runner up Nicholas Gumbo who garnered close to 87,467 in the 2017 gubernatorial elections contest against Cornel Rasanga who garnered 143,446 votes.
Gumbo who is a former Rarieda Mp is widely viewed as Governor Cornel Rasanga's successor in the coming polls going by his developmental record that is yet to be matched in Rarieda constituency thereafter.
During his tenure as Mp for Rarieda, his development record propelled electorates to push him to vie for the top county seat in 2017 which he gladly accepted and vied for as an independent candidate after losing in the ODM primaries.
Nicholas Gumbo is one of the most decorated politicians in Nyanza which is opposition leader Raila Odinga's 100% support base.
With speculations going around that James Orengo is eyeing also to succeed Rasanga, the contest will be of the century since both veteran politicians will seek the endorsement of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Orengo who is the Senate minority leader is in pole position to succeed Rasanga due to his stand in supporting 'Baba' during the 2017 election petition.
His legal prowess will propel him to be county boss but with a lot of sweat.
Orengo is a lawyer loved by the manner in which he has been representing the opposition in court battles and that has given him the might to reign in the Court battles as a senior counsel.
The senior counsel is a decorated legislator whose career began in the early 80s when Kenya was a one-party state under President Daniel Moi and the KANU party.
The Siaya Gubernatorial seat is in the hands of ODM leader since his endorsement will be vital on who becomes the Governor in 2022 as politicians continue bracing for the seat.
