A middle-aged man was on Saturday shot dead in a renewed banditry attack in Barquqe location of Modogashe ward, Lagdera constituency.
The raiders suspected to be from Isiolo county left the locals mourning as security officers got into action to contain the situation.
The Saturday incident is the latest in a series of attacks meted on the residents of Barquqe by the bandits from Isiolo south.
Just after the attack, the residents held an urgent meeting with their ulumaas, village elders to discuss the issue that is threatening to renew the long-standing animosity in the border region.
Locals who spoke to this writer hinted that they would be forced to take the law into their hands to protect themselves since the government has done little to guarantee their safety.
"This is too much. The government has been promising to intensify security in this area, but nothing has been done. We shall now take the law into our own hands and protect ourselves," said Abubakar, one of the residents whose kin was killed.
Garissa county has been battling with banditry attacks with tens of pastoralists losing their lives while thousands of others displaced.
