Kisii County Governor James Ongwae and his deputy Joash Maangi have sent messages of condolences to the family of former UN secretary Koffi Annan who died after a short illness.
Ongwae said Annan will be remembered for his efforts to unite Kenyans during the 2007-2008 post-election chaos.
“Annan was the reason we smiled during the 2007-2008 post-election violence after he brokered a peace deal between former president Mwai Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga. As Kenyans we will live to remember him for the great things he did to this country,” he said.
Ongwae called on leaders across the country to emulate Annan who was a peace-loving man.
Maangi on his part said Annan’s death is not a blow only to Kenyans but, the whole world.
“Annan helped this country great during the 2007-2008 post-election violence. His death is a blow to Kenyans. I wish him a good journey and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Maangi.
The DG said Kenyans should live in peace in respect to the peace deal Annan brokered in the country.
