Siaya Senator James Orengo on Saturday asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to stamp his authority in the fight against corruption, adding that the slow pace could injure Uhuru's reputation ahead of his exit in 2022.
Early this year, Orengo was in the frontline asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to compensate 2017 post election violence victims, a demand that set him against Nyanza leaders who argued that he should have allowed 'handshake to materialise'.
At Mfangano Island on Saturday, Orengo questioned the slow manner at Uhuru Uhuru is handing war against graft, adding that he needs to change his strategy in coming days.
"We want to see the big fish being charged. The President should use a more aggressive approach to ensure those stealing taxpayers’ money are arrested and prosecuted. At least it will act as an example to their juniors not to try stealing public funds,” he said.
In March, President Uhuru Kenyatta warned that he will not spare even his closest political allies in the graft purge, remarks which caused jitters within DP William Ruto's camp.
While Uhuru has in the past cautioned Judiciary against the slow pace, Chief Justice David Maraga has often insisted that courts will make ruling 'based on the evidence produced'.
Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko who also attended the event, asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intensify graft purge to counties which he said are harbouring corrupt officers.
"The president should [take] the fight on graft to the grassroots level where the problem is [rampant]. Top county government officials should be investigated over the same," Mr Ayacho said.
