A popular city pastor has hit out at Woman Representatives and other female leaders who are not focusing their efforts in executing their duties.
House of Hope preacher Godfrey Migwi was responding after Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru was denied entry into Sunshine Upperhill Hotel for lack of a marriage certificate a week ago.
Pastor Migwi, in a video as reported by Standard Digital Entertainment, said that Waruguru should concentrate on her mandate as a Woman Representative and avoid the sideshows.
He said that women were elected as leaders to work and not to catwalk around the country or focusing on petty issues.
“My opinion as a leader and chosen by God, women leaders should focus on their work that Kenyans gave them. She is a leader, I am a leader and I respect her as a leader. They were elected to work. We voted them in not to catwalk in the country, talking about the hotel owner, talking about petty issues,” said Migwi.
“You cannot go to media houses and start condemning someone who is doing his or her business. Let that hotel man do his work, you are doing your work, and he is on his work.”
“I am not supporting the hotel owner asking for a marriage certificate, I am not supporting that. But in every business, there are rules and regulation, so even if you are a leader you are supposed to obey those rules,” he added.
Here are some reactions from Garissa residents following the pastor’s sentiment:
“I support what pastor Migwi said, the leaders, whether a man or a woman should focus on their duties. These sideshows are just creating a bad image for them,” said Khadija Ayub.
“Pastors and church leaders should speak more often about such issues so that leaders should know where they go wrong,” Jawaahir Mohamed said.
“Pastor Migwi should also stop commenting on issues that do not concern him. He should focus on church matters,” said Abdullahi Osman.
“What the hotel owner did was wrong. So we should be walking with our marriage certificate everywhere we go,” said Ikram Adan.
