In a tweet on Wednesday, the flashy city boss warned that his office does not have nor run a loan app on Google Store. He also insisted that no Nairobi County employee is associated with such a loan scheme.

"Please beware of these fraudsters who are using a Google play App to con innocent members of the public. My office does not operate a loan scheme & any person masquerading as a Nairobi County employee or associating me with such criminal acts should be apprehended and prosecuted," he said.

Sonko has called on residents to be vigilant about the scammers. He advised that anyone who has been conned through this scheme to report to the police for action to be taken.

"Any member of the public who has fallen prey to such fraudsters should report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission or the County Government for action," he added.

This is not the first time fraudsters are using renowned people's names to con innocent Kenyans.
