Three suspected thieves were on Saturday night caught trying to steal sheep from a farmer in Terekena village, Nakuru County.
The three who were using a motorcycle were caught red-handed by one of the locals while they were in the process of stealing the sheep.
One of the thieves was shot with an arrow by the local who raised an alarm as the other two tried to escape.
According to Citizen Digital, area residents tried to catch up with them but they vanished and left the motorcycle behind.
“I found the three armed suspects on the roadside with a motorbike and our sheep tied on a tree. They attacked but missed me and I shot one of them with an arrow,” said the local resident.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Raphael Tuwei said the frustrated residents tried to hunt them down due to increased cases of animal theft in the area.
The administrator has put on notice thieves targetting livestock farmers in the area, warning that they will be hunted down and dealt with according to the law.
The Chief said investigations into the Saturday night incident is ongoing and a manhunt launched for the three suspected thieves who escaped on foot.
“Armed locals who caught the three stealing chased them after they left their motorcycle behind and flee on foot. The motorcycle has been towed to the police station as investigations into the rampant thefts continue,” said Tuwei.
