Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of lands Eng Nelson Maritim on Thursday appeared before the committee of the whole house of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly to explain plans to purchase National Bank Eldoret branch building.
According to the county executive, the property will cost the devolved unit Sh568 million.
“The cost of land is Sh400 million while the cost of the building is Sh168 million, adding up to to Sh568 million. The land size is 0.373 hectares,” Maritim said.
The session, however ended abruptly, after the Leader of Majority in the County Assembly Josphat Lowoi, discovered some discrepancies in figures tabled by Maritim.
According to Lowoi, the county executive had earlier indicated that the building would cost Sh450 million.
“I wish to say that it is unfortunate that we cut the meeting short, because we need the statements of fact, since we cannot continue talking and contradicting ourselves, and we are trying to find the truth. We are giving you more time to go and get factual details,” said Lowoi.
The meeting was adjourned, and the lands executive asked to appear before the same committee in seven days.
He was also urged to seek an advisory opinion from the National Lands Commission, and the office of the Attorney General.
