Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama now wants retired President Daniel Arap Moi to endorse Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid.Muthama said Moi owes Kalonzo a political debt which he should pay in 2022.According to Muthama, Kalonzo was one of the few politicians who were loyal to Moi during his tenure. He claimed that Moi had agreed to back Kalonzo in 2002, only for him to endorse President Uhuru Kenyatta.“Kalonzo and Moi have a rich political history and we as the Kamba community kindly ask the latter to endorse Kalonzo’s candidature in 2022 in honor of the close political ties,” Muthama said.
He addressed the press in Matungulu, Machakos County on Saturday.
The former senator said Kalonzo’s chances of ascending to power in 2022 will increase if he has the backing of the Kalenjin community. He said Kalonzo is the only trusted and loyal leader who should succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.Muthama asked Kalonzo to plead with Moi for endorsement when he visits him.“Kalonzo should use the coming visit to Moi's Kabarak home to plead for his support in 2022,” he said. The retired former president has requested Kalonzo to visit him.Last week, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi said the retired president had requested Kalonzo to visit him after his father's burial.Kalonzo has promised to visit the former president even as 2022 succession politics takes shape. There are speculations that Kalonzo and Senator Moi could partner in the 2022 presidential poll. The two leaders are among others who have declared their interests to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022.
