Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is serving his first term in office and is expected to seek re-election in the forthcoming 2022 general election.
Waititu won the seat in hotly contested 2017 election defeating his longtime political rival William Kabogo.
As 2022 succession politics take centre stage, the governor is likely to face stiff competition in his bid to seek re-election as Kiambu governor.
Here are politicians likely to give him ‘sleepless’ nights in 2022;
Moses Kuria
The second term Gatundu South MP has declared an interest in the presidential election in 2022. Kuria is, however, likely to drop his presidential bid and go for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat. The vocal and controversial legislator enjoys massive support in Kiambu and Mt Kenya region.
William Kabogo
The former governor has remained politically active despite losing to Waititu in 2017 general election. He has been quoted saying that he is not interested in Kiambu politics and he is said to be eyeing the presidential seat. However, anything is possible in politics and Kabogo can easily seek the Kiambu top seat in 2022 polls.
Kimani Ichung’wa
Ichung’wa is among famous and vocal youthful politicians in Kiambu. He is also a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto. Ichung’wa is likely to vie for the Kiambu's top seat in 2022.
Kimani Wamatangi
He is serving the second term in office and is said to be eyeing the governor seat in 2022. The Senator is among experienced and vocal politicians in Kiambu.
Gathoni Wa Muchomba
The Kiambu Woman Representative is a critic of governor Waititu. The first term MP has often clashed with Waititu over county projects including the ‘Kaa sober’ initiative. Wamuchomba could contest for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in 2022 owing to her rising political influence.
