The initiative was formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga after their March 9 truce in pursuit of national unity and cohesion.

But Aukot who unsuccessfully vied for the presidency in the 2017 general elections now wants the initiative disbanded by the court, terming it a waste of public funds.

In a petition to the on Thursday, he termed it unconstitutional, noting that the public was not included in scrutinizing the taskforce members and neither were they vetted.

“Its operations are in high gear and they are likely to spend more public money at the expense of the taxpayer yet their said activities are unconstitutional and a waste of public money,”  reads the petition in part as was seen by the Citizen Digital.

“The applicant is apprehensive that despite notifying the government of its grievances the respondents have operationalised the said task force without regard to serious concern raised by the applicant,” further reads the papers.

The 14 member team has since embarked on national tours as it seeks answers from Kenyans on what they would like changed for a more united nation.

Odinga has since claimed that the taskforce's operations will climax in constitutional reforms to address stubborn challenges, among them the tradition of violent elections and electoral injustices.
