President Uhuru Kenyatta received a warm reception in Kisumu on Thursday, but that was not all as he made the maiden tour to the opposition backyard.

One of the other and less publicized gifts he received was a dummy Sh500 shilling note bearing his image which was handed over by a resident.

The incident happened as the president presided over the launch of the Universal Heath Coverage at the Mamboleo Showground in a heavily attended event.

The man who was part of the crowd made dramatic attempts to have the opportunity to get to the President but all was in vain.

Upon realizing that he could neither gain the president's attention nor beat his security, he lifted it up and started moving towards the dais.

It took the sharp eyes of Mama Ida Odinga, wife to opposition leader Raila Odinga, to notice the man before notifying the President who called him to the dias.

“There is a young man here your Excellency. I think he has a present for you. Can we clap for him,” Ida said as is quoted by the Standard, before the President ushered the man to the dias.

Clad in a pair of sandals, faded blue shirt and a pair of trousers, the man met the Head of State, presented his gift before the President handed him over to one of his aides.

Ida termed the action a demonstration of the love President Kenyatta enjoys among Kisumu residents.

Ironically, the gift came barely two days after the Head of State introduced the new faceless Kenyan currency.
