The Kilifi County flag will continue being raised half-must until when the body of former deputy county governor Kenneth Kamto will be laid to rest, the county government has said.
Speaking in Kilifi during Jamhuri day celebrations, Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi, was not able to give his Jamhuri day speech saying that it is time for the people of Kilifi to mourn the late Kamto.
"We all remember Kemto as a leader who sacrificed to serve the great people of Kilifi, he was a leader for all, we are therefore going to give him our last respect.”
Kilifi North Member of Parliament, Owen Baya, who graced the 55th Jamhuri celebrations in Kilifi asked the County Assembly of Kilifi to draft laws that will lead to taxation of industrial products that are being transported outside Kilifi.
“We have very many resources coming from our county, for example, Kilifi is the number producer of salt countrywide. We need our people to benefit from this,” Baya said.
In Malindi Sub-county, Cleopatra grounds where the celebrations were conducted had only government officers present, many political leaders failed to show up from what is believed to have been contributed by the death of Kemto.
However, addressing the people of Malindi, Malindi deputy county commissioner Karung’o Kamau asked the residents to liaise with the Malindi security committee to provide information concerning corrupt government officials.
Kemto was shot dead early Wednesday by unknown people at his home in Nyali.
