A new radio station has started broadcasting in Kisumu town. Peace FM is the first Islamic radio station to start operating in Kisumu County.
The station is based at Tieng’re in the outskirts of Kisumu town, along the Kisumu-Busia road. It broadcasts on 107.2FM.
According to one employee of the new station, Peace FM’s main aim is to create a platform to preach a doctrine of Islam, known as Daawah.
Daawah is what Christians refer to as evangelism.
“The main purpose is to teach listeners about Islam. We will not, however, leave out our non Muslim brothers and sisters,” he said.
According to the employee, the main broadcast language is Kiswahili, but sometimes they will use English, and vernacular depending on the guests invited for various shows.
Following the launch of Peace FM, Kisumu now boasts of having seven radio stations.
The other six are; Radio Sahara, Urban FM, Namlolwe, Lake Victoria, Sky FM, Dala FM and online Radio Acata.
Radio Sahara, and Urban FM broadcast in Kiswahili and English, while Namlolwe, Lake Victoria, Sky FM and Dala FM broadcast in Dholuo.
Acata online radio broadcasts in English and Kiswahili.
Peace FM is available in Nyanza, Western and parts of Rift Valley.
