A 4-hour night meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen reportedly softened the latter's heart on Mau Forest evictioms.
Just after the meeting, Murkomen would proceed to communicate official position of the government on the thorny issue to Rift Valley MPs at Weston Hotel.
"The DP was concerned and he had to summon him (Murkomen) for a meeting. He furnished him with details including temporary halt by the government.
"He asked him to tone down as the two-principals and policy makers handled the issue to avert humanitarian crisis," said a source who spoke in confidence.
And in the meeting with MPs, Murkomen assured the legislators that the matter would be handled amicably.
"We agreed that all of us should desist from talking carelessly about the Mau issue, which is being reduced to a contest between two communities," said Kipkelion East MP Hilary Koskey.
During the meeting, Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny led onslaught against Murkomen and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot , who they accused of straining relationship between Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Murkomen, besides opposing proposed lifestyle audit, was also in the front-line in the Mau Forest issue where he accused the government of mistreating settlers.
