Nakuru Speaker Joel Maina Kairu has told off men who have a habit of preying on young girls.
Speaking at Bondeni Primary school in Biashara Ward on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of over 100 boys who had undergone circumcision, Kairu said it was a crime for men to engage in sexual intercourse with underage girls.
He called on residents in the area not to relent in reporting such cases to the police so that action can be taken against them.
“Men let us be humane and stop messing the lives of young school girls for we will be messing with the future,” said Kairu.
His sentiments were echoed by Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika who said such men have no place in society.
Speaking at the same event, Senator Kihika hit out at men who prey on young girls, noting that they should face the ruthless arm of the law.
“Those who impregnate young school girls and mess up their lives do not even qualify to be called men. Their place is in prison,” said Kihika.
Kihika at the same time decried neglect of the boy child, adding that the community shouldn't focus on empowering the girl child only.
"The boy child needs as much support from the community as the girl child. We have invested so much in the girl child and neglected the boy child that she risks not finding the ideal husband when the time comes," she said.
