Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny and a section of State House operatives are scheming to revive Deputy President William Ruto's ICC case in a bid to block his 2022 ambitions, a former witness has claimed.

But in a quick rejoinder, Mr Kutuny has dismissed the claims as 'nonsense', adding that it's a desperate scheme by maize cartels to divert attention.

“Let them pay farmers and deal with the issues we raised. Such claims on ICC issues are just but tears from the cartels who are feeling the heat for frustrating farmers and stealing from the NCPB," he said.

But Mr William Rono, a former ICC witness who recanted evidence against the DP, insists that Kutuny, State House operatives in cohorts with prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, are keen to revive the case.

Speaking to reporters at Eldoret on Thursday, Rono claimed that he has been approached by Kutuny and the State House machinery to take part in the case.

“I am among three former witnesses approached by Kutuny and Harambee House operatives to go back to ICC and fix the DP over claims of witness tampering," he said.

He added: “As former witnesses, we have rejected that plan and that is why Kutuny and his colleagues have been coming up with all manner of claims against the DP."

Mr Kutuny, in the company of Silas Tiren of Moiben and Alfred Keter of Nandi Hills, over the weekend accused the DP of allegedly orchastrating maize farming crisis.

ICC dropped crimes against humanity cases labelled against President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Ruto in 2016, citing witness intimidation and blackmail.

Ruto is keen to succeed Uhuru but his allies have persistently linked State House to a wider plot to block his 2022 bid.
