Siaya Senator James Orengo is coming out as an important arm of the opposition in the Luo Nyanza region, and a strong deliveryman of elective seats in the area.
However, twice now, in the 2013 and 2017 polls, he has been accused of pushing anti Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidates in elective seats using propaganda.
The vocal leader has been pointed out as the man behind former Siaya Gubernatorial aspirant William Oduol's loss in 2013, after leading a smear campaign against him.
Orengo, according to the Nation, teamed up with former Gem lawmaker Jakoyo Midiwo and other members of the ODM party to use propaganda against the candidate.
Consequently, they delivered the seat to current Governor Cornell Rasanga.
Confirming the allegations, Justice Aggrey Muchelule would later annul Rasanga's election on Oduol's petition, though Rasanga would later retain his seat and even secure a reelection in 2017.
In 2017, he was again on the spot for allegedly leading another propaganda campaign against Ugenya lawmaker David Ochieng who was vying on the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG).
Campaigning in favour of Chris Karan of ODM, Orengo reportedly linked Ochieng' to the murder of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT chief Chris Msando.
Msando was found murdered in Kiambu in the run up to the August 8 general polls.
Orengo is reported to have also led a team of ODM lieutenants in branding Ochieng a mole of the ruling Jubilee Party to deny him support in the ODM bedrock.
This former the basis of Karan's election nullification by the Supreme Court two weeks back.
"I find that the campaign was perverted and compromised the integrity of the election. Siaya [being] a Raila Odinga’s backyard, linking Mr Ochieng to Jubilee affected the final results. These results did not pass the test of transparent and verifiable test,” the court said.
And though he has earned himself a slot as one of the top leaders in Nyanza, Orengo is equally coming out as a leading propaganda peddler in the region.
