President Uhuru Kenyatta is no longer hiding that he loathes his deputy William Ruto and his 2022 politics.
On Wednesday, Uhuru launched a thinly-veiled attack on his deputy and his 2022 politics and told him off over the handshake.
Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga entered into a peace deal dubbed the Handshake on March 9 2018.
In a clear indication that the head of state is no longer keen on his pact with Ruto, but out to work with Raila, he painted a picture of a deputy who cannot heed what he is told.
The Deputy President is constitutionally the principal assistant of the President, but it seems Ruto has chosen his ambition instead of being the President’s Mr Fix It.
“Raila has never told me he wants to be President in 2022. Leave Raila Odinga alone. We are busy working with Raila and some people are busy campaigning for 2022. Raila tells me do this, and when I do it, it turns out to be even much better.
"Halafu unaskia watu wengine wanasema ati anavunja Jubilee. Raila anaingilia wapi na Jubilee” (you will hear some people saying Raila is dividing Jubilee. Where does he come in?) the President posed.
The blunt remarks which were responding to Ruto’s claims that Raila Odinga is breaking Jubilee is the clearest hint on who Uhuru trusts between his deputy and the ODM party leader.
What Uhuru was telling his supporters is that he would choose Raila over Ruto anytime, any day … even if that day is 2022!
The remarks should be the last nail on whether the head of state will support Ruto in 2022.
