A family is mourning the death of a middle-aged woman who died after she was bitten by a snake.
This happened on Thursday at Gesture in Nyamira County.
Norah Kemunto was working at their family farm when the reptile attacked and bit her.
Kemunto had been living alone after separating from her husband is reportedly said to have been an alcoholic.
“Kemunto has been a hardworking woman since she divorced her alcoholic husband. She left home early on Thursday morning to the farm where she met her death after the snake bite her while she was harvesting beans,” said the deceased's elder brother Dan Nyabayo.
Nyabayo said he had screams from the farm and rushed there only to find the deceased's leg bleeding.
“I rushed to the farm where I found her lying down crying. She told me she saw a big snake which bit her as she tried to drive it away. I called neighbours who arrived and rushed her to the hospital,” he said.
Area chief Fidelis Okemwa confirmed the incident and said Kemunto died while receiving treatment at a local clinic.
He said the snake bite her and fled from the scene.
Okemwa warned residents who have turned to be witch-doctors against keeping snakes at their homesteads.
The deceased' body was taken to Bwomboga hospital mortuary.
