Valentine's day is around the corner. That one occasion that preys not only on your heartstrings but also on your 'wallet strings'.

The idea of restaurant reservations, lavish gifts, expensive bouquets and gifting your partner with assorted pieces of chocolates are some of those romantic gestures linked to Valentine's day.

However, the majority of people in relationships dread this day and see it as a nightmare because they can't afford to spoil their partners with such expensive gifts and treats.

This year don't let finances get in the way of your romance.

It's possible to have an inexpensive yet meaningful Valentine's celebration that is within your reach.

Here are five romantic ways you can enjoy on February 14 with your honey and no money:

1. Surprise your loved one with breakfast in bed

Whether your partner is a sandwich, pancake, avocado or eggs kind of girl, there's nothing that will put a smile on her face like seeing a tray of their favourite breakfast on Valentine's morning.

It will even make them feel more special when it's carried in by their favourite person. Bonus points for any food you can make into a heart shape.

2.Set up a candlelit bath

Given that this year's Valentine's falls on a weekday, there's nothing your partner will find more romantic and refreshing than finding a candlelit bath waiting for him; especially after a long day at work.

3. Plan a romantic dinner, but dress up

Prepare a romantic dinner at home by cooking your partner's favourite meal.

Add a romantic touch by setting the table with a pretty table cloth, light up some candles, add some flowers if you can and let some relaxing, romantic music play in the background.

After doing the messy cooking and setting the table up, dress up. If you want to get sexy and wear fishnets and a fancy dress, go for it.

4.Have a movie night

How about watching a romantic movie after a tasty romantic dinner?

After dinner, keep it fun, simple and intimate. Find a movie you both love, get some snacks, turn off the lights, light up the candles, pile up some pillows, cuddle up and spend a chilled and cosy night just the two of you.

5. Write little romantic notes and hide them in places your partner can easily find

Do you know how good it feels when you unexpectedly find money in your pocket?

So imagine how sweet and romantic it would be to find random love-note surprises everywhere.
