Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has commended the French government for supporting major projects in the county.
The Jubilee governor made the remarks when he hosted the Ambassador of France to Kenya, Aline Kuster Menager, on Tuesday.
He said the signing of the grant of the multi-million Mwache Dam project in Paris by him and his Deputy Fatuma Achani in 2016 came as a blessing to the residents of Kwale County.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank your government for the support because it’s through the partnership of World Bank and the French Government that the Mwache Dam project was realized. This mega project will be beneficial to not only Kwale people but also those in Mombasa County,’’ he said.
On matters of security, Mvurya said his administration has maintained peace and security at the shores which is a joint effort between Kenya and Tanzania.
"We are running an elaborate strategy with the National Government and our neighbors Tanzania to ensure security is a key factor in Kwale and that tourists are able to reach to their destinations safely," he said.
Flanked by the Consulate of France Muhammed Ramazani, Menager said the French Government will sign an MoU with Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Kwale campus to teach languages that will create employment opportunities to the youths who will in turn improve the tourism sector.
