Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has directed the Inspector General of Police (IG) Joseph Boinnet to immediately commence investigations into the horror Fort Ternan bus accident that claimed 56 lives on Wednesday morning.

In a letter dated 11 October, directed to the IG and copied to Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti, Haji wants the investigation to focus on all state agencies responsible for road safety.

The DPP wants the file submitted to his office after completion of investigations for appropriate action.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Article 157 (4) of the constitution of Kenya, I hereby direct you cause investigations into the matter to determine persons who may have, through acts of commissions or omission contributed directly or indirectly into the occurrence of the accident,” Haji said in the letter.

Fifty-six people died after the Homeboyz bus was involved in a horror accident along the Kericho highway near Londiani on Wednesday morning.

The bus was heading to Kakamega from Nairobi.

The owner of the bus registered under Western Express Sacco has been arrested and is in police custody pending completion of an investigation into the accident.
