An angry man descended on his wife with kicks and blows for allegedly insulting his mother on Thursday at Taracha village in Kisii County.
Abel Mogeni gave his wife Victoria Kemunto a thorough beating on grounds that she insulted his mother, Josephine Nyang’ara.
“I married my wife 10 years ago and my mother has stood with us for all the years. Now that we have made wealth, Kemunto is abusing my mother and calling her a witch and desperate woman. I did beat her for disrespecting my mother,” said Mogeni.
He said he will not allow his wife to abuse his mother since she is not a witch as claimed.
"My mother is not a witch as my wife called her. I am not going to allow her or anyone to continue insulting and abusing my mother,” he added.
Area assistant chief Charles Ayuma confirmed the incident and faulted the man for beating his wife saying he should have involved elders and Nyumba Kumi officials to solve the matter.
“Violence against women should stop. Even if the man’s wife insulted her mother-in-law the law doesn’t allow someone to take matters into his own hands. I have already summoned Mogeni to appear in my office on Monday over the matter,” he said.
Ayuma warned men against beating their wives saying they will be arrested and charged in court over the assault.
